At one time or another, every writer has had “writer’s block.” For some reason, we can’t think of anything to write. But I don’t think this phenomenon is restricted to writers. Sometimes people get “life block.” They know what they’re doing isn’t working for them, but they don’t know what they want to do and have no idea what step to take next. This is where the “this or something better” strategy can be helpful. Any action is better than no action, so if you find yourself with life block, develop a plan—any plan—and take the initial step. Then do the next step. That will get you moving, which is really the most important thing right now. You can always change course if you get a better idea, in the same way that writing anything is better than writing nothing – you can always write something else once you get going.
