In the movie Office Space, Peter explains that he just stares at the desk when he arrives to work each day and only does 15 minutes’ worth of real work every day. If you want your employees to be productive, if you actually want to get something out of them, you need to give them the freedom to work when and where they want and for however long they need to get the job done and done well.
As we emerge from the pandemic, there are a lot of jobs available. This is having a huge impact on certain industries. Teaching is a good example. My sister-in-law is a teacher, and she said that some of her colleagues didn’t originally want to be teachers; that’s just what they ended up doing. Now that there are more opportunities available, they’re leaving the profession to follow their dreams.
