Perpetual Inbox

Have a perpetual inbox. Maybe not an in-room, but a single thing that “stuff without a home” can be put until it’s put in its proper place. Sort of your island of misfit toys. That way, the rest of the house can stay neat and organized, and you’ll have a single spot that you need to work on when you have time. That’s a lot overwhelming than needing to straighten the entire house.

A word of warning: you should not put everything in your perpetual inbox, or you risk it turning in to an always messy in-room. What you can do is continually straighten all day long as you move around your house. Heading to the kitchen? Why not grab any empty water bottles in your room and toss them in the recycle bin when you get there? Going near the laundry room? Great, take the unused clothes hangers in your closet and your dirty clothes with you on the way. If you do it now, you won’t need to do it later.
