Papers

  • Do you hoard papers? A lot of people do; you’re not the only one. But isn’t that a weird thing to do in a digital world? As somebody who hoards papers myself, I will not lecture you or tell you’ll never need 99 percent of them. But I can help you get control of that hoard.
  • I will not tell you that you need to stop this habit but I will suggest a way to make it easier download once a year all of your electronic bills be sure to put a reminder on your calendar so that you don’t forget and then put them into your electronic file now you have all of the items without it taking up any physical space
  • I certainly won’t lecture you about whether you actually need those records or whether you’ll ever look at them again instead I’ll give you an idea about how to decode water while keeping as many records as you’d like.
  • Organizing by date: I use the format yymmdd followed by a description. That puts everything in chronological order, so this is my naming convention for pictures and for bills.
  • One way not to let mail a receipt pile up is to deal with it immediately when you get it from the mailbox or when you’re given a receipt take a look at it decide if you need it if you will need it in the future maybe take a picture of it if it’s a receipt if you won’t need it go ahead and throw it away if it’s male you can throw away the envelope as well as any other papers inside so that you only have the item for the piece of mail that is actually important.
