Does DIY save time or waste time? It has the potential for both. If you’re doing something that you could reliably hire someone else to do for a reasonable price, then you should probably outsource. But if outsourcing actually costs you more in terms of time and money than simply doing it yourself, then you shouldn’t outsource. That’s why I learned to build websites myself. There’s something very powerful in not having to rely on someone else (or wait on someone else) when you need something done right away.
If you outsource just because you don’t know how to do something, it’s freeing to learn how to do it. Then you can make a decision about whether you still want to outsource or not.
If you can spend money to have someone do something for you but in the time saved you can make more money or you will enjoy the time, then it makes sense to outsource. If you’re just being lazy, though, you might as well just do it yourself.
