Buy it before you need it

My grandpa used to say “a half a tank of gas will set just as well on the top of the tank as it will on the bottom.” He rarely let his tank fall below the half-way point.

Think about the things you use regularly. If you don’t plan on changing your favorite brands anytime soon, why not stock up? You can do that at big retailers like Sam’s or Costco, or you can take advantage of sales when you run across them.

There really is no excuse for running out of something you use all the time. If you know you’re going to use something, make sure you have more than one unless it’s perishable. When you open your last container, put it on the shopping list again.

Smart speakers like the Amazon Echo, better known as Alexa, make it easy to do that. We don’t even have to write it down. We can literally say, “Alexa, add garlic powder to the shopping list” and she’ll do what you say.

Grocery subscriptions: For non-perishable items that you might need at regular intervals, like razor blades for example, Amazon has a subscription service. Talk about auto-pilot – you don’t even need to remember that you need something. Without you even thinking about it, your refills will just show up at your door.
